14th July 1921. That morning after leaving the bar where Man Ray had drank two grogs with the composer Erik Satie, they looked at the window of an ironmonger where they saw an iron. Without hesitation, Man Ray decided to buy it and then applied a strip of fourteen nails, changing its natural function and forcing it to turn into a new object with a particular fascination.

To try out the success of the project he tried to use the new iron he had invented on a dress, but while ironing the creases he ruined it.

During the following years , he started to produce his useless iron. Today around 5.000 of them can be found worldwide. The cost of each Iron is around €2000,00.
